Louvre Abu Dhabi is looking to appoint a Senior Imaging Scientist to join the Research Laboratory to perform radiography, CT scanning of cultural heritage objects and research aimed at understanding, preserving, and interpreting objects from the museum diverse collection in collaboration with curators, conservators, and other museum staff. The laboratory has been operational for a year and a half, and the radiography/CT scanning room is currently under construction and should be available by the end of 2024. The new scientist will follow the construction of this new facility and then lead its involvement in laboratory projects.

The scientific Research (CL-SR) department of the National Gallery of Art is responsible for analysis and research relating to identification and characterization of materials used by artists and conservators and of artworks in the collection. The incumbent applies scientific skills to the analysis of artwork using a variety of techniques and technologies. As the Museum Specialist (Art), you will: Evaluate requests for analysis from conservators and curators and recommend appropriate analytical procedures; Initiate and collaborate on research projects within the conservation division related to conservation materials, works of art, or methods development in instrumental analysis of art or conservation treatment or preservation studies; Act as lead scientist to undertake analyses, using a variety of skills in spectroscopy and other types of analysis and coordinates staff necessary to perform the analyses.

Ce poste est proposé dans le cadre du projet MICA (Modélisation des interactions entre changement climatique et agriculture dans l'Occident ancien) financé par l'Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR). MICA vise à définir l'impact des variations climatiques sur la productivité des cultures dans le passé et sur la transformation de l'agriculture, afin d'analyser quelles stratégies les sociétés anciennes ont développé pour s'adapter à ces changements. MICA se concentre sur 4 zones réparties entre le nord de la France et le nord du Maroc. Il s'agit d'un projet interdisciplinaire réunissant des climatologues, des archéologues, des agronomes, des paléoenvironnementalistes et des géochimistes de France, d'Espagne et du Maroc. Ce poste est destiné à soutenir la recherche d'une tâche spécifique du projet MICA sur le climat et le potentiel agricole. Le travail sera consacré au développement d'un émulateur de modèle capable de simuler différentes productions végétales (olives, raisins, blé, pois...) au cours des derniers millénaires en fonction des variations climatiques et des pratiques agricoles. Un modèle d'agrosystème (LPJmL, codé en C) et des simulations climatiques sont disponibles. L'objectif est de calculer un émulateur (un modèle statistique rapide capable d'imiter le modèle complexe complet) de LPJmL qui sera utilisé dans une tâche ultérieure du projet MICA comme entrée d'un modèle à base d'agents utilisé pour comprendre comment les agriculteurs peuvent adapter leurs agrosystèmes aux changements climatiques à long terme.

This position is to assist in sample organization and processing for an archaeobotanical study of prehistoric specimens from Thailand, housed at the Penn Museum. Tasks include data management of archaeobotanical soils collections, organizing specimens and moving sediment collections so that they can be further processed, adding data for samples not yet registered, and from about July 27-August 7, the assistant will work with a visiting archaeobotanist to float, sieve, and otherwise process the soil samples in preparation for further study by the senior archaeobotanist at another institution. Summer hours can be flexible except during the visit by the archaeobotanist.

As Laboratory Coordinator you will support a team of conservation scientists, conservators, curators, and visiting researchers. You will have the exciting opportunity to work in our newly-refurbished laboratory, where a AHRC £2.3 million grant has enabled the purchase and upgrade of a wide range of microscopes, spectrometers and X-radiography equipment. The Laboratory Coordinator works closely with the conservation scientists to provide technical support for research and materials analysis in the Conservation Department, while ensuring the smooth and safe access to the laboratory and efficient running of specialist equipment. The post holder is responsible for coordinating routine laboratory support functions. They will interface with conservators, curators, and researchers supporting the planning and completion of all aspects of routine sample analysis. The post holder will be responsible for equipment maintenance and health and safety procedures, as well as general laboratory administration.
