The British Museum is seeking a Scientist: Polymeric and Modern Organic Materials to focus on the scientific examination and analysis of polymeric and modern organic materials within the British Museum collection, delivering publicly-accessible research outputs in support of Museum priorities. Key Areas of Responsibility:
- To undertake analysis of polymeric and modern organic materials (e.g. natural and synthetic polymers, dyes and adhesives, cellulosics), using pyrolysis-GC-MS, LC-MS and other analytical techniques such as FTIR and microscopy.
- To answer questions about the origin, technology and stability of polymeric and modern organic materials in the collection aligned with the Museum’s research strategy and priorities.
- To contribute to the support and maintenance of the BM’s facilities for organic analysis, including training and advising other users, managing data storage and ensuring best practice in laboratory health and safety, including COSHH and risk assessments.
- To develop new projects within the area of polymeric and modern materials.
