Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in Science (Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, Geology etc.) with research interest in built heritage conservation, and preferably with experience in applied science in conservation. Experience in characterisation and assessment of historic built fabric, and instrumental analysis are required (FTIR and XRD application are preferred). They should also have competence in written and spoken English, and good teamwork skills. Experience/research interest in any of the following: XRF, XRD, FTIR, PLM (e.g. petrography), Raman, SEM, SEM-EDS, ICP-OES/ ICP-AES is desirable. Publications and/or research track record of built heritage conservation or applied science, teaching experience or basic knowledge of Chinese would be an advantage.
The appointee will work on contract research and academic research projects related to architectural conservation: deterioration of building materials, investigation of material properties and conservation of architectural finishes. He/She will also work on analytic investigations of cultural materials in the Architectural Conservation Laboratory (ACLab) and will help to further strengthen the collaboration with other laboratories on campus.
