This role provides technical and administrative support under the general direction of the Environmental Research Scientist in the Preventive Conservation Science Laboratory (PCSL) for the completion of an Institute of Museum and Library Services National Leadership grant. The grant funds the development of new test methods and the testing of commercially available materials used in the display, transport, and storage of art as well as construction materials. This role will focus on the use of both the Oddy test and a paper-based version of the Oddy test to evaluate materials with the purpose of assessing materials being used near organic collections. The role includes the selection, organization, testing, of these materials as well as the dissemination of test results. Duties will include the maintenance of databases, collection of technical data from primary sources, writing of reports and standard operating procedures, and communication of test results. The role also includes maintaining related equipment and supplies.
