The Ancient DNA unit is a research infrastructure based at the Department of Organismal Biology at Uppsala University and the Department of Archaeology and Classical studies at Stockholm University, and is part of the national research infrastructures SciLifeLab, Swedigarch and ArchLab. The tasks consist of analysis of DNA data from historical and prehistorical material from humans, animals and plants, as well as from sediments. The analyses include e.g. data quality controls, mapping of DNA data to reference genomes, investigation of deamination patterns, analysis of sex chromosomes, analysis of mitochondrial and Y-chromosome haplogroups, principal component analysis, analysis, analysis of kinship, trait analysis and metagenomic analysis (incl. analysis of pathogenic microorganisms). The bioinformatician is involved in maintaining, updating and developing the unit’s analysis tools, data transfer and data/metadata management, and deposition of DNA data/metadata in repositories.
