It is planned to assign the professorship to the Heidelberg Center for Digital Humanities (HCDH) and will be equipped with its own resources. HCDH works closely in connection with the Center for Ancient Studies. The focus of the professorship is to curate and further explore the second largest papyrus collection in Germany, to continue and further develop the digital projects established in Heidelberg and essential for the field of studies worldwide, and to perform research in the area of digital heritage. An aim is to raise the profile of research and teaching in the field of digital working methods as applied to ancient written documents. Close collaboration with the Center for Ancient Studies in research and teaching is expected, in particular the integration into existing and future study programs. On top of this the ability to use and expand digital methods in the research of ancient written documents and to make them usable within the framework of the HCDH and beyond is desired. A focus in research on editing and interpreting Greek papyrological sources, including digital editions, and a research interest in the further development of digital presentation and accessibility formats is required. Experience in using text databases as a basis for further digital editions, their creation and further development as well as in the acquisition of third-party funding is also an advantage.
