The British Library is looking for a Conservation Scientist to join the conservation team. The Conservation Scientist role is to undertake technical examination and analysis of materials that will deepen understanding of items in the British Library’s collections and ensure their preservation. To plan and deliver research projects, in collaboration with colleagues across the BL as well as external partners. To develop risk management strategies for collection items and thereby giving evidence based decision making in both individual item and collection wide contexts. The successful candidate will also: Contribute to scholarship in the study of heritage items in the Library’s collections according to own specialisms. Undertake analytical work and research to advance knowledge of their composition, construction and history, for the benefit of researchers, curators and conservators; Support Conservation colleagues and work closely with the Preventive team to provide data analysis, and assist with project planning; Initiate and collaborate in research projects and manage relationship development both within the British Library and with external partners; Identify new conservation science developments and issues, and advise the conservation and curatorial departments accordingly.
