The School of History, Classics and Archaeology at Newcastle University is seeking to appoint an experienced technician to support our Bruker SkyScan 1273 microCT scanner. The role is Fixed term for 2 years as part of the BBSRC award Modified function of a stem cell regulator in monocots and dicots, led by Durham University in collaboration with Newcastle University and the John Innes Centre. In this role you will be responsible for the day to day running of the microCT facility, as part of NeMCAS (Newcastle Material Culture Analytical Suite). you will provide analytical support, developing the use of microCT for imaging of plants and plant-based materials. You will work with the project team to optimise the analytical protocols and data visualisation for plant specimens and other organic materials. You will act as a point of contact and coordinate access to the microCT facility, and work with other technicians to ensure users undertake appropriate training and ensure relevant health and safety measures are implemented. This role is a unique opportunity to develop the emerging applications of microCT for organic materials and work with an interdisciplinary team spanning biological and heritage science applications. There are also opportunities to undertake additional professional training with Bruker to enhance the postholder’s existing skills in CT imaging, and to contribute to the project outputs.
