The main task consists of handling DNA sequence data from historical and prehistorical remains of humans. The analysis includes quality controls, mapping data to reference genomes, determination if DNA data is of ancient origin, and determination of species and sex. We presently run two workflows in the archaeogenetic group at Centre of Paleogenetics (CPG) (one aimed at mapping human data and one aimed at mapping microbial data), and much of the work will be related to these two pipelines. Another task is to support the group in downstream analyses (ancestry, kinship, traits and microorganisms). The bioinformatician is also responsible for updating and developing analysis tools and data management systems and contributes to writing user reports. The bioinformatician is expected to participate in the Department’s and the facility’s other activities and is part of an archaeogenetic research team and also CPG.
