We are looking for an Assistant Scientist to provide analytical and research support in the Getty Conservation Institute’s Science Department, as part of the Built Heritage Research team, which combines laboratory research and field studies to characterize traditional and modern built heritage materials and to investigate conventional and innovative conservation treatments for such materials. Your work will be based in our laboratories and offices at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Major job responsibilities: You will initially focus on the analysis of earth and lime-based mortars and earthen substrates, investigating their compositional/mineralogical properties, mechanical performance, and physical response to different environmental conditions; Contribute to research areas including durability studies in real-world conditions and under accelerated laboratory aging following standard protocols and purposely designed procedures; Identify and apply appropriate laboratory and field-based analytical techniques, which are available at the GCI, for the characterization of laboratory specimens and samples from heritage sites.
