We are looking to hire a book and paper conservator for the conservation workshop of the Arnamagnæan Institute, a research centre within the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics (NorS) at the University of Copenhagen. The Arnamagnæan Institute houses several collections, the most important of which is the collection of manuscripts, which comprises about 3000 manuscript items and 14,000 diplomas and is divided between Copenhagen and Iceland. Material science methods are more a part of manuscript research today than in the past, and we are therefore looking for a conservator with in-depth knowledge of material science analysis methods and experience in dissemination. As a conservator you will: analyse parchment, leather, paper, pigments and ink at the micro level; be part of the coordinating and planning team responsible for organising the Institute’s “Care and Conservation of Manuscripts” conference, which is held every two years and will next take place in April 2023; teach courses as a visiting lecturer in material science and act as a teaching assistant; help develop courses in material science.
