The Department of Anthropology at the University of Alabama seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in anthropological archaeology with a specialization in lithic analysis in the Maya area with a focus on communities of practice apropos the production and exchange of stone artifacts. In alignment with the Department’s emphasis on and capabilities in archaeological science, the applicant should demonstrate experience with nondestructive archaeometric methods in lithic analysis (e.g., XRF elemental analysis), with an additional preference for applicants experienced with geographic information system (GIS) applications in archaeology. Moreover, in alignment with our Museum Studies program, the successful applicant will demonstrate their capacity to conduct research using museum collections and show evidence of successful collaborations with key stakeholders such as museums and museum curators, government authorities responsible for the preservation of antiquities, and/or descendent communities.
