The British Library is looking for a Conservation Scientist to join the conservation team. The Conservation Scientist role is to provide leadership and advocacy both within the BL and with external partners on scientific issues to enable preservation of and access to the collection. To develop risk management strategies for collection items and projects thereby giving evidence based decision making in both individual item and collection wide contexts. The position will work on a wide and unique collection from different eras, geographical areas, formats and material. The successful candidate will advise Conservation and Library wide staff on appropriate analytical and measurement techniques that will provide additional information to support and facilitate their work. The Conservation Scientist will have a first-degree level in science or conservation; experience of the application of scientific techniques to conservation; knowledge of materials science and the interactions between materials and their environment. In addition, project management experience with a proven track record of completion on time and to remit is also an essential requirement.
