The Museum of Modern Art seeks a Conservation Scientist to lead conservation science in The David Booth Conservation Department. This scientific program is predicated on the care and understanding of The Museum of Modern Art’s collection, namely twentieth and twenty-first century materials and techniques pertaining to works in the collection. This includes technical analysis, the development of improved processes and materials for conservation treatment, alongside collection care and preventive conservation programs.
The conservation science section works in partnership with the Conservation team and collaborates with colleagues across the museum including Building Operations, curatorial, Collection Management and Exhibition, Registration, Education, and Exhibition Planning and Design teams. MoMA is also reviewing and adjusting its operations to reach a more sustainable practice, to which conservation contributes. In summary conservation science is critical to all aspects of Conservation’s daily work in caring for and exhibiting the collection.
