The position is available from 1st August 2017 and is focused on the development of violet stimulated luminescence for extending the age range of luminescence dating. The key objective of the position is to provide a robust Pleistocene chronology for landscape evolution at key sites of the Atacama desert, Chile. To achieve this aim, the post-doctoral researcher will work with colleagues from other sub-projects within the German Research Council funded Collaborative Research Centre SFB1211 "Earth Evolution at the Dry Limit". There will also be the opportunity for collaboration with researchers from the SFB806 "Our Way to Europe" collaborative research centre, which is also lead by the University of Cologne.

The post-doctoral position is based within the Cologne Luminescence Laboratory, which hosts state of the art luminescence dating equipment, including 5 Risø TL/OSL readers (three with single-grain attachments), a Lexsyg Research instrument equipped with a CCD camera, as well as two high-precision Ge gamma spectrometers and beta counting facilities. As part of this project a further Risø TL/OSL reader, equipped with a violet laser, has been purchased and will be delivered in September 2017.
Candidates who have worked extensively with luminescence dating during their PhD and/or postdoctoral careers are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition to fundamental luminescence dating, this project will also include fieldwork in Chile and has funding for the presentation of results at international conferences.

The deadline for applications is June 30th and informal enquiries should be addressed to me (georgina.king@geo.unibe.ch) and Dominik Brill (brilld@uni-koeln.de).
