Position Description: Danish National Research Foundation’s Centre of Excellence, Centre for Urban Network Evolutions (UrbNet), School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University – in collaboration with the Danish Interdisciplinary Centre for Plasma Mass Spectrometry (DK-ICPMS), Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University – invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship focused on archaeometallurgy and isotope geochemistry. We are seeking a post-doctoral scientist interested in exploring the application of techniques to the study of the origin and production/processing techniques of archaeological materials from Northern Europe to the Middle East and Africa. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in geochemistry or archaeometallurgy, the requested analytical skills, a good command of English, excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work in international collaborations, and a strong publication record commensurate with career stage. The successful candidate is expected to present her/his research at international meetings, and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals in a timely manner.
Terms of Employment: The position is a full-time, one-year position, with the possibility of extension one year further. Starting date is April 1st 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. Additional support will be provided for research expenses, travel to professional meetings and fieldwork.

The Centre for Urban Network Evolutions (UrbNet) is an interdisciplinary research initiative in archaeology and the history of urban societies. We strive to integrate new methods from the natural sciences with context-cultural studies rooted in the Humanities. UrbNet’s primary focus is Northern Europe over the Levant to the East Coast of Africa with active excavation projects in Denmark, Jordan and North Africa. The newly established Danish Interdisciplinary Centre for Plasma Mass Spectrometry, also supported by the Danish National Research Foundation and located in the Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University, is dedicated to the precise and accurate determination of trace metals and their isotopes in geological, archaeological and biological materials. The Centre is equipped with multi-collector and quadrupole inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers, laser ablation, HPLC and a class 10-100 clean laboratory, as well as highly skilled technical staff.

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
