The Institute for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology at Kiel University (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel) invites applications for a position as Research Fellow “Archaeological Demography and Proxy Development” as part of the ESTER project (Estimating the Earth’s Prehistoric Population Based on a Large Number of Records). The ESTER project applies innovative methodologies such as hierarchical Bayesian modeling to integrate heterogeneous datasets and create regionalized population reconstructions with high temporal resolution. The research aims to provide insights into interactions between environmental change, societal transformations, and innovation processes. Responsibilities: Compilation, preparation, and analysis of archaeological datasets for the investigation of demographic developments; Support in the application and further development of archaeological demographic indicators (proxies); Contribution to the integration of archaeological data into existing modelling frameworks (Bayesian models).
