The Science team at the Van Gogh Museum is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to support the implementation of Reflectance Imaging Spectroscopy (RIS) techniques for studying and analyzing historical paintings. With the support of ASML VGM Partners in Science, the museum implements innovative research techniques for studying and preserving paintings by Van Gogh and his contemporaries. You will be part of an interdisciplinary research team consisting of restorers, scientists, art historians and researchers from partner institutions. Tasks and responsibilities: Survey commercially available instruments for reflectance imaging spectroscopy (RIS) and Fiber Optics Reflectance Spectroscopy (FORS). Coordinate with the museum's purchasing department for the purchase of the best suited instruments; Implement FORS and RIS techniques for the analysis of 19th century paintings in the museum collection and train other members of the Science team; Develop strategies and work processes for data acquisition, processing and management; Develop or contribute to the development and implementation of multimodal data processing and analysis techniques using computational methods and machine learning.
