The position is part of the DFG-AHRC funded project PASTLOST (“Pastoralists Lost: Pioneer equine and ruminant herders of the Central Asian Steppes and their role in early horse husbandry”). The successful candidate will work with Prof. Cheryl Makarewicz at the University of Kiel to query how human manipulation of horse movement may have directed equine domestication processes and understand the role of Near Eastern ruminant livestock in shaping early horse husbandry. Your tasks: Access a large pool of multi-isotope data measured from modern plants, ancient bone collagen, and ancient tooth enamel to isolate long-distance human-mediated transfer of horses and livestock, multi-scalar mobilities, and establish stocking rates ; Develop isoscapes and derive probability of origin of ancient humans and animals.
