Using geometric morphometry on a present-day reference frame and on a western Mediterranean archaeobotanical corpus, the researcher recruited will be tasked with documenting the evolutionary dynamics of rye (Secale cereale) in south-western Europe during the recent Holocene. Biometric and geometric morphometric results obtained on archaeological carporests (caryopses, rachis elements) will form the documentary basis of the project, and will be supplemented by new radiocarbon dating (diffusion chronology) and isotopic analysis (associated agricultural practices).
