The Courtauld Institute of Art is the UK’s leading institution for teaching and research into the History of Art and the conservation of paintings, and is also home to one of the finest small art museums in the world. The Courtauld is currently undergoing a capital transformation project that will make The Courtauld’s world-class artworks, research and teaching accessible to more people – in the UK and internationally. This essential role supports the teaching and research of the Conservation faculty of the Courtauld, by: Working with staff and students to undertake technical study of paintings and sites using a range of methods including X-radiography, UV photography, IR reflectography, hyperspectral imaging, X-Ray Fluorescence, scanning X-ray fluorescence mapping, Raman microscopy, FTIR microscopy, sampling and sample preparation for and microscopy/ microphotography and EDX analysis; Ensuring the smooth running and maintenance of analytical equipment infrastructure; Delivering training in the form of lectures, workshops and practical sessions, to students on MA and PhD programmes in conservation.
