Logo Trinity College DublinThis post-doctoral research fellow will be recruited to participate in an ERC Advanced Grant research project entitled STONE-WORK. Taking stone as its focus, this will explore the trajectory of building materials from source to building site. The five-year project aims to analyse the relationship of stone sourcing, supply, working and consumption in eighteenth-century Britain and Ireland. To achieve this analysis of interdependence in architectural production cross-disciplinary research is required, combining architectural and craft history with geology and the findings of architectural conservation. The project will involve the collaboration of architectural historians, geologists, craft practitioners and heritage stakeholders. This post will involve analysis of geological data for dimension and decorative stone used in the eighteenth century, documentation of historic quarry sites across Ireland and England, organisation of a symposium, and editorial work on the resulting proceedings.
