The research project "Talking Heads" aims to improve the identification and interpretation of perimortem traumatic lesions on cranial remains of cremated individuals during the protohistory. It proposes an innovative experimental methodology that combines archaeology, forensic sciences, and hard sciences, like the American body farms. The main objective is to establish criteria for recognizing, classifying, and understanding the etiology of cranial traumatic injuries in ancient remains. This includes the analysis of perimortem trauma traces caused by protohistoric weapons with flint tips through replicative experiments on modern human samples before and after cremation. The project also aims to differentiate taphonomic modifications from intentional modifications on bones, thus deepening the understanding of warfare and interpersonal violence in protohistoric societies. Furthermore, the project aims to train a researcher with multidisciplinary skills, promoting a competitive scientific profile at the national and international levels in the field of research.
