We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic assistant professor who will explore the feasibility of performing ancient plant hologenome research. Hologenomics is the combined study of the genomic content of host organisms and their associated microbiomes. Although increasingly applied across modern plants and animals, such tools are yet to be routinely applied to historic or ancient samples. This is partly due to technical limitations with regards to the currently available laboratory and computational methodologies, as well as possible challenges related to the diagenetic processes that specimens undergo post mortem, which could lead to the obscuration of true biological signals.
