The Anthropological Genomics Laboratory at the University of Connecticut has an opening for a full-time Ancient DNA Research Assistant. Our research program bridges anthropological genetics and critical biocultural anthropology, integrating human population genomics and ancient DNA (aDNA) studies with archaeology, ethnohistory, Indigenous and community knowledges, bioethics, biocultural anthropology, and critical perspectives from the social sciences and humanities. We are looking for a motivated person to work with Dr. Deborah Bolnick (Department of Anthropology, UConn) and Dr. Raquel Fleskes (Department of Anthropology, Dartmouth College) to carry out ancient DNA projects and oversee daily needs of the ancient and modern DNA laboratory spaces on the Storrs campus. Job responsibilities will include dry and wet lab analyses, such as DNA extraction, next-generation sequencing library preparation, quantification (Qubit, Gel Electrophoresis, Quantitative PCR), and basic bioinformatics pipeline setup. In addition, the candidate will manage lab databases, provide general lab maintenance (ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, etc.), and work with students, post-docs, and visiting researchers. Training will be provided.
