A full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) appointment is available to contribute to the ERC-funded project SUSTAIN: Sustainability of Agriculture in Neolithic Europe. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Maria Ivanova-Bieg, Prof. Elena Marinova-Wolff and colleagues at the University of Mainz to investigate variation in crop growing conditions and to assess the sustainability of plant cultivation during the initial phase of farming expansion in Europe through stable isotope analysis of plant remains. Your tasks: prepare samples of carbonised plant remains for IRMS, measure stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen, analyse and interpret the isotope data to address questions of intra-site and cross-regional variation in plant husbandry practices; Contribute to the development of the project database and research infrastructure.
