The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) have awarded a grant to the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (Faculty of Science and Technology) entitled: Peopling of the Tularosa playa during the Last Glacial Maximum. This follows the discovery of ancient human footprints within this basin. One of the project aims is to increase our knowledge of the palaeoenvironments associated with these footprint horizons. For example, what was the prevailing vegetation or temperature or conditions in the associated palaeo-lake? A range of palaeoenvironmental proxies, including but not limited to pollen and ostracods, have been recovered. We are particularly interested in exploring the application of biomarkers in this work. We seek to appoint a Post Doctoral Research Assistant qualified in palaeoenvironmental methods able to direct this work at White Sands National Park in the Tularosa Basin. You will have a doctoral qualification in an appropriate field, be able to work independently and bring appropriate expertise in palaeoenvironmental analysis. Participation in footprint excavations and the documentation of footprint sites will also form part of the duties, as will engaging with indigenous peoples.
