This job involves two projects that translate heritage science research into real world impact. Firstly, the postholder will carry out research on the integration of heritage science into the evaluation of improvement projects in museums. The postholder will assess data collected in case studies, and will use damage functions to evaluate how interventions into the building fabric and management have changed the lifetime of the collections. In this project, heritage science and economic modelling are combined to address questions of risk and probability, uncertainties around damage functions, thresholds where damage becomes irreversible, and unknown relationships between materials and their environment. In addition, the postholder will work in the ERIHS-IP project, collaborating with international partners and stakeholders to implement a Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science. Specifically, the postholder will contribute to the organisation of a training plan that brings together the heritage science community and will work on a quality system for the infrastructure.
