University of Coimbra opens a call for postdoctoral research fellowship, in the framework of the project entitled: “Idanha-a-Velha: city, territory and population in ancient times (first century-twelfth century AC”. The postdoctoral researcher (BPD) will integrate and collaborate in the research activities of the project, including laboratory analysis and archaeological fieldwork/excavation of the necropolis. The specific work plan aims to characterize Roman and Medieval communities from Idanha-a-Velha and its surrounding territory through the bioanthropological analysis of human remains and the study of the funerary context. This will include biological and pathological profiling of the exhumated individuals and archaeological contextualization of burial practices. The BPD will collect bone and teeth samples for isotope and genetic analyses to reconstruct the dietary, mobility and genetic profiles of these individuals, which will enable a deeper understanding of the lives of past communities.
