Research on the Alpine uplands has recently improved thanks to new projects or the resume of previous ones. Still, the information on environmental context and formation processes of archaeological record are partly lacking, due to the huge quantity of data to be processed. This research project is aimed at filling this gap, through the elaboration of data on the geoarchaeology and the climatic-environmental context of archaeological sites under study, the collection of field data (both in-site and off-site), sampling, geomorphological survey, archaeological micromorphology and the minero-petrographic and geochemical characterization of sediments, in order to comprehend the relationships between human peopling and environmental evolution. The case studies include sites from the Upper Palaeolithic to post-medieval times – among them the sites of project ALPES, Riparo Cornafessa, Riparo Gaban, Doss Penede and others.
