The British Museum is looking for a Research assistant to develop and apply a protocol for the analysis of writing media (inks) on the Roman wooden tablets from Vindolanda. This role has a focus on imaging and analysis in order to enhance understanding and promote effective conservation and display. Key areas of responsibility: To develop and apply a protocol for the analysis of writing media (inks) on the Roman wooden tablets from Vindolanda using non-invasive scientific imaging and analytical techniques, including short-wave infrared (SWIR) and multiband imaging, XRF and Raman spectroscopy; To contribute scientific data that enhances understanding of the wooden tablets from Vindolanda and promotes their effective conservation and display.
