We are looking to fill a number of PhD and Postdoctoral positions in the Department of Evolutionary Genetics (Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology), focussed on the development of molecular and computational methods for the analysis of ancient DNA. Particular focus areas of our department are the genomes of modern humans, Neandertals and Denisovans, and the analysis of DNA from archaeological sediments. We will consider diverse candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, including life sciences, computer science, applied math, anthropology and archaeology. Previous experience with large sequence datasets, programming, theoretical population genetics or advanced statistical analyses would be an advantage. We seek individuals that are highly self-motivated, able to work independently and to collaborate closely and effectively with other members in a research team. The positions have flexible start dates and are fully funded according to German TVöD pay scales. Successful applicants will work in close collaboration with molecular biologists, bioinformaticians and population geneticists to address questions about recent human evolution.
