Logo University of GroningenThe post-doc position in geology and sedimentology of coastal Italy is part of the archaeological research project “Salt and Power, Early States, Rome, and Resource Control” (Major GIA projects). The project will employ geophysical, chemical and archaeological methods to study salt production between the Bronze Age and Roman period. The study area is the Tyrrhenean coast of central Italy. The post-doc researcher will be asked to: create palaeogeographical reconstructions of selected parts of the Tyrrhenean coastal zone deemed to have been suitable for salt production in antiquity; detect and characterize actual remains of ancient salt production in areas selected for fieldwork, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team; coordinate laboratory analyses in the field of the earth sciences and archaeometry.
