The main task consists of developing and performing analysis of DNA sequence data from historical and prehistorical remains of humans, animals and plants. The analysis includes quality controls, mapping data to reference genomes, determination if DNA data is of ancient origin, and determination of species and sex. Analysis of ancestry, kinship, traits and microorganisms is also included in the tasks. The bioinformatician is responsible for updating and developing analysis tools and data management systems and also contributes to writing user reports. The bioinformatician is expected to participate in the Department’s and the facility’s other activities and is part of a team that includes the facility staff in Uppsala.
