The Department of Geography and Earth Sciences wish to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work as part of the ERC funded project “Bridging Europe: A Quaternary Timescale For The Expansion And Evolution of Humans” (EQuaTe) held in conjunction with the University of York. The project brings together world-leading excellence in the Aberystwyth Luminescence Research Laboratory at Aberystwyth University and the NE Amino Acid racemization laboratory (NEaar) at University of York.
The EQuaTe project will develop and apply two geochronological methods to the Palaeolithic record from northern Europe in the period from about two million years ago to ~70 thousand years ago. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking luminescence dating of snail opercula from archaeological sites across northern Europe, and for evaluating the geochronological potential of novel biogenic calcites.
The post will be based in the luminescence laboratory in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences at Aberystwyth University, but the post-holder will liaise closely with research colleagues on the project in York, and partners across Europe. The successful candidate will be responsible for data collection and analysis, as well as contributing to the broader development, delivery and dissemination of the research. In Aberystwyth, the successful candidate will be part of the Aberystwyth Luminescence Research Laboratory, and the Quaternary Environmental Change Research Group.
