The position is for a lab assistant to (1) prepare archaeological samples for compositional analysis; and/or (2) assist with irradiation of samples for elemental analysis. This person will assist with the documentation and preparation of archaeological samples (ceramic, chert, and obsidian artifacts) for trace-element analysis by Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA). Duties include photography, microphotography, and the cleaning, crushing/grinding, weighing, and encapsulating of samples. Clerical duties include tracking workflow of sample documentation and preparation. Students may train to assist with sample irradiation and gamma spectroscopy.
