The laboratory for archaeometry is part of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at KU Leuven, and invites applications for a PhD position in archaeological science, focusing on research related to cobalt blue pigments, a.o. in the form of smalt. This project, funded by the Special Research Fund of KU Leuven offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on archaeological materials analysis under the guidance of prof. Patrick Degryse and offers the chance to join an international research group working on porcelain. The successful candidate will characterize porcelain (e.g. Spode, Royal Danish) and other artefacts (e.g. paper, glass, pigments) to provenance the cobalt source used as a colouring agent. The successful candidate will perform geochemical analyses on these artefacts, using SEM and ICP techniques.
