The successful applicant will work on an interdisciplinary project focusing on micromorphology and ancient DNA of biogenic deposits by micro-sampling different forms of fecal deposits in caves. The project is nested within the Leibniz Science Campus “Geogenomic Archaeology Campus Tübingen” (GACT). GACT brings together experts from the fields of archaeology, genetics, geosciences, ecology, and microbiology to examine the evolutionary relationship between humans and ecosystem biodiversity through the multidisciplinary analysis of sedimentary archives containing ancient DNA. The candidate will investigate a range of biogenic deposits in caves, both ancient and modern, to characterize their macroscopic and microscopic physical properties and composition, and to sample for aDNA.
