The successful candidate will establish and head a new research group at Associação Biopolis integrated into the new Ancient and Environmental DNA Unit and benefit from the new facilities and infrastructure. The PI of this group will coordinate an ambitious scientific program that utilizes ancient genetic data from diverse species to enhance our understanding of the evolution of life on Earth. In particular, the new group will focus on analysing ancient biological specimens sourced from archaeological excavations and museum collections to reconstruct the evolutionary trajectories and population history of natural species, populations, investigate ancient population history, the reconstruction of past environments, the mechanisms through which individuals and populations adapt to shifting environmental conditions, and explore the origins and evolution of the human species, with a particular focus on the Iberian Peninsula.
